Don't Panic, We're From Poland!!! part 111 - One Million Bulgarians

One Million Bulgarians transformed from Red Star in early 1986. Although both bands have same mambers (Jacek Lang - vocals, drums, samplers; Piotr Wallach - guitars; Krzysztof Trznadel - bass) music was quite different. Red Star played punk rock, OMB were post-punk/cold wave with some industrial rock touch. First, self-titled album was recorded in 1987 but censorship blocked release of it. Shortly after Piotr Wallach left band to form Aurora. Album was eventually released in 2004 under new title "Pierwsza płyta" ("First album") with six bonus tracks (9-14 - all recorded in 1986).
One Million Bulgarians are still active but now they play different music.

Don't Panic, We're From Poland!!! part 51 - Püdelsi

In 1981 band Düpą was formed by painter Piotr marek and Andrzej "Pudel" Bieniasz. After Marek's suicide (04.08.1985) band changed name into Püdelsi (after guitarist's nickname). In 1986 busker Maciej Maleńczuk joined them as vocalist. Fist album "Bela Pupa" was released in 1988. Most song was sung by guest vocalist - Kora Jackowska from Maanam. Some time after band split-up but reformed in mid nineties. Later Püdelsi became more mainstream (or pop maybe). In 2005 Maleńczuk left band.

Don't Panic, We're From Poland!!! part 30 - Ivo Partizan

Ivo Partizan was formed in Mogilno, Poland in 1984. Band was named after Yugoslavian partisan leader Ivo Lola Ribar, killed in 1943. Their music was influenced by Joy Division and Bertold Brecht. Group is almost unknown even in Poland. Ivo Partizan decayed in 1987 and played 13 concerts only.
They never made any official release. This set is record of their gig from 1985 Jarocin Rock Festival. Great stuff.

Don't Panic, We're From Poland!!! part 20 - Aurora

Aurora was ephemeric but very interesting polish band formed spring 1987 in Rzeszow. Music started as punk rock but changed to postpunk / coldwave with electronic accents. In 1988 Aurora recorded their first and only album "Miedzynarodowka / Internationale". Band decayed shortly after that. Due to many problem album was released in 2004.
Music on that album is innovative postpunk / cold wave with laibachish industrial insertions. Final effect could be compared to early Ministry and Front Line Assembly. Great shame that this music was forgotten for so many years.
Lyrics are even more interesting. Because problems with censorhip lyrics couldn't be in polish. Almost every track is sung in different language. Among them: english, german, spanish and even serbo-croatian!
Tracks 10 to 12 are early versions in polish language. Untitled track 13 is conversation betwen members of communist riot police during quelling demonstration.

Don't Panic, We're From Poland!!! part 17 - Siekiera

Siekiera was formed in Puławy, Poland (from 1845 to 1918 Puławy carried the name Nowa Aleksandria / New Alexandria) in 1983 as punk rock band. Played very extreme music with aggressive, apocalyptic lyrics. All songs and lyrics were written in very short time by gutairist Tomasz Adamski.Siekiera soon became famous. Their concert at Rock Festival Jarocin in 1984 is legendary. Two songs from that gig were included on "Fala" compilation. Alas this line-up was ephemeric. They played for about a year and 6 gigs only. Due to the conflicts between Adamski and Budzyński (vocalist), Budzyński left the band. Later he formed Armia with Robert Brylewski.
After the change of line-up, Siekiera evolves. New music is post punk / cold wave. New sound is inspired by Joy Division and Killing Joke but remains original. In 1985 band releases first single "Jest bezpiecznie" In 1986 "Nowa Aleksandria" is released. It's first and only Siekiera's album. Band broke up in 1988.
Atmosphere of this album is cold and depressing. Music is based on dense drumming and minimalistic, trance guitar. Songs distinct rhytm is inspired by industrial bands. Very unusual lyrics were made by band's leader Adamski. Most of them are formed from few words only. "Nowa Aleksandria" is undoubted masterpiece and one of the greatest albums ever recorded in Poland.
