Thing was a noise rock band from Gdańsk, Poland. They started playing together in 1991 as quartet. After some problems one member was dropped. New line up was: Tomasz Swoboda - guitar, Irek Swoboda - bass, Tomasz Piotrowski - drums. It remained stable.Thing relased four demo tapes: "Female" (1993), "Short" (1994), "Ladies' Tailor" (1995), "Talbot" (1996). In 1997 their first official material "Rudder" was released by Nikt Nic Nie Wie label. It was Shellac influenced noise rock.
In 1999 band recorded new material "Killwater". Later that year Thing added new member (Paweł Możejko - trumpet) and changed name into Columbus Ensemble. In 2000 "Killwater" was released under old name Thing. In 2002 band mutated into Columbus Duo withSwoboda brothers as only members.
